I heard from my French teacher that because each cheese can have a very strong favor, it leaves a aftertaste and what the grapes do is help wash the palette of your tongue somehow which is why you eat the grapes after a different type of cheese so that one cheese doesn't mix with the taste of the previous cheese~ xD
